The Sweatshop has added yet another very cutting edge healing therapy to our already extraordinary menu of services! Most of you have wrapped your heads around ALL the benefits of fitness and our POWER approach, all four levels of Pilates training. Many of you are seeing our Sunday chiropractor Dr. Karlynn on a regular basis. The really smart cookies have booked in with Sandra Swami for Fascia Stretch services on Friday.

With the addition of Madeline Lydon to our staff, we now offer M.A.T. therapy sessions, currently Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and every other Saturday. And here comes the logical question…

WHAT IS M.A.T.?

Muscle Activation Techniques® is a specific and unique process for evaluating an individual’s ability to produce efficient muscle contraction. Through this, specialists are able to identify and correct patterns of compensation. Loss of muscle contraction results in decreased range of motion, muscle tightness, and pain, decreasing physical performance. Range of motion testing can indicate which muscles have decreased contractibility. Precise forces are applied to restore that muscle’s efficiency, thereby increasing mobility and stability. The M.A.T.® Certified Specialists are trained and certified to perform several force application techniques to restore function and strengthen weak muscles.

In no time at all, you will be performing your daily activities with ease, whether that means throwing 100 yard passes or walking up the stairs!

We thank our colleague and physical therapist Shannon Maixner, owner of Fitness Focus in Mahtomedi, who first turned us on to this technique several years ago. As a PT, she started using this therapy that moved patients and athletes through injuries and to higher performance levels faster. Unfortunately, there were so few people trained in M.A.T. that we could not find a therapist until now. When Shannon referred recent graduate Madeline Lydon to us, we snapped her up.
