Matt is our star guest services and fitness trainer. We love him for his many talents and capabilities. Here is a little bit more about him, how he started in training, and how he ended up at the SweatShop.
“I am 21 years old and I was born in De Pere Wisconsin. I am currently a senior at Concordia St.Paul in the exercise science department. I am the chairman of the health and wellness department in student senate and a member of the SAAC committee. My interest in personal training in High School for my parents. I would create my parents work out programs and work with them for fun. My personal training certification came through an applied exercise prescription class at my college. Through this class I was introduced to the SweatShop, when I attended a TRX and Pilates class. I was drawn to the small gym atmosphere and intelligence of the trainers. This draw mixed with some recruitment from fitness director, Anthony, ultimately led to me applying to work on the guest services and training team. I am passionate about strength training and increasing people’s ability to move properly and pain free. Strength training has drastically improved my quality of life and it is my passionate to help it affect other people’s lives. My style of training uses a combination of free weight and body weight progressions in order of optimize client’s movement patterns to gain strength and prevent injuries.
Some of my biggest influences in the Health and Wellness field are Dr. Kelly Starrett, Mark Bell, Dr. Stuart McGill, and Chris Duffin. The next certification I plan on getting is the certified strength and Condition coach (CSCS) certification. I have Future aspirations are going to graduate school to get my Doctorate of Physical Therapy.”
